I'm a travel writer and guidebook author whose curiosity for people and places started with school trips to Europe to learn about Cold War history and later led to a two-year, round-the-world jaunt. I eventually wound up in Vienna, Austria, where I found the perfect combination of metropolis and mountain and the chance to be smack in the middle of a peak-history-lesson continent.
