Sitting on the shore of Lac Beauvert and surrounded by manicured grounds and mountain peaks, this classic old lodge can't quite match the panache of the Banff and Lake Louise Fairmonts, although you'll bump into fewer afternoon-tea-seeking tourists. With a country-club-meets-1950s-holiday-camp air, the amenity-filled cabins and chalets are a throwback to a more opulent era.
The lodge's highlight is its monumental Emerald Lounge, open to the public and backed by stupendous lake views. It's filled with log furniture, chandeliers and fireplaces and is the best place in town to write a postcard over a quiet cocktail. There are often discounts in the off-season.
