Rotonda de los Jaliscenses Ilustres

Guadalajara

Jalisco’s hall of fame, in the plaza on the north side of the cathedral, is ringed by 30 bronze sculptures of the state’s favorite writers, architects and revolutionaries, including one woman – Rita Pérez Jiménez (1779–1861), heroine of the War of Independence.

Some of the greats depicted here are actually buried underneath the rotunda, the round, pillared gazebo-like monument in the center.
