Mission Cemetery

Tauranga

This shady little cemetery, overlooking the bridge, has some interesting memorials relating to battles fought between local M膩ori and government forces in the 1860s. A prominent red-granite monument honours R膩wiri Puhirake, a Ng膩i Te Rangi chief remembered for issuing a code of conduct for dealing mercifully with British civilians and wounded soldiers during the conflict.
