Travellers hoping to travel to Estonia will be glad to learn that it will open its borders to passengers arriving from 24 European countries from 1 June, without a quarantine requirement. The Estonian government will welcome the visitors if they don't have COVID-19 symptoms and have spent at least 14 days in any of the permitted countries before coming to Estonia.
The countries are Austria, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Croatia, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Latvia, Norway, Poland, France, Romania, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Travellers from the UK, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, Portugal, Malta and Spain are also permitted to enter Estonia, providing they stay in quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
Travellers from these countries can't avoid quarantine by presenting a certificate proving they have tested negative for COVID-19. and is revisited every Friday, with the compulsory quarantine depending on whether the coronavirus infection rate is above 15 in any particular country. This means that no more than 15 people per 100,000 inhabitants are infected in the passenger’s country of origin in the past 14 days.
Compliance with quarantine will be monitored by local police, who will carry out random checks on passengers. “We are taking it one step at a time when it comes to lifting travel restrictions,” says Estonian foreign minister, Urmas Reinsalu. “We can currently open Estonia to Europe. It is difficult to predict now when we can welcome people from across the world again because everything depends on developments in the spread of the virus.”
