The fish and farmers market of Matosinhos is a city institution located directly behind the Mercado metro stop. The big, bright space buzzes with locals sizing up the catch of the day on the lower floor, and is laden with fruit, veggies, flowers and the odd squawking chicken upstairs.
The domed indoor market is surrounded by a small selection of cafes and shops, and the industrial grind of Porto’s seaport can be seen across the road.
