A spaceship suspended in the trees. A mirror cube reflecting sunlight and surrounding spruces. A giant bird's nest…The seven tree rooms that make up Sweden's most mind-boggling, award-winning lodgings sit just off Rte 97, about halfway between ³¢³Ü±ô±ðÃ¥ and Jokkmokk, in the midst of pristine forest. There are saunas and spas to relax stiff muscles after hiking, kayaking or dogsledding.
The Treehotel came into being in 2010, inspired by the film The Tree Lover by Jonas Selberg Augustsen, and its unique rooms were designed by some of Sweden's leading architects, such as Tham & Videgård and Bertil Harström, with an emphasis on minimal environmental impact and ecologically friendly construction.
Guided tours of this architectural wonder are available Tuesday to Friday at 1pm (150kr) and at other times by prior arrangement. Even if you don't stay in the Treehotel itself, you can lodge at the retro Britta's Pensionat (doubles 750kr) out by the road and enjoy meals at its cheerful cafe (open early July until the end of August).
