Assateague Island Campground

Maryland

You can camp on the Maryland side of the island. The national seashore facilities are basic – chemical toilets, cold showers and drinking water – but decently comfortable. We recommend just bringing your tent and waking up to the wind – who can object to a morning with an Atlantic sunrise and wild horses cantering by the waves?

You'll find campgrounds on the bayside and the ocean side. Sites are first-come first-served mid-November through mid-March. Check the park website for details about backcountry camping (permits $10).
