Airbnb has set up a luxury geodesic dome under the Times Square Ball in New York City. Lucky guests will ring in New Year's Eve from the unique spot, while being treated to dinner cooked by a private chef, and a virtual meeting and performance from their host for the night... Mariah Carey!

The Queen of Christmas has joined Airbnb to host a special NYE night in New York in a geodesic dome and luxury apartment on the rooftop of the Nasdaq building. Guests will be greeted with a private virtual performance from Mariah on Zoom, before being treated to some glittery costumes and props to ring in the new year. In addition, they'll receive $5000 spending money, and enjoy a special dinner in the private lounge and dining area, which will be prepared by their own personal chef for the night.

When the celebrations are over, guests can snuggle up in a cozy bed in the igloo-style bedroom that offers panoramic views of New York City. In memories of the evening weren't enough of a memento, Airbnb is gifting guests a sparkly piece of crystal, featuring this year’s Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball design to take home.

Airbnb said: "With Times Square celebrations going virtual this year, guests will have a truly unique experience during the traditional confetti celebrations, right below the Ball."

"New Yorkers have found the strength to carry on this year, and the people of this city are my heroes," Mariah wrote on Airbnb. "To honour NYC’s resilience, I’m inviting two locals from the same household to call Times Square home for one night and sleep in a cozy dome atop Nasdaq’s terrace. Under the New Year’s Eve ball, say GTFO to 2020 in style."

The Times Square famous, glittering is iconic but this year the tradition will be scaled back with "socially-distanced live elements," due to COVID-19. The ball will drop, there'll be fireworks and artists like Gloria Gaynor will perform in-person on the night to a small gathering of frontline heroes who will be invited to join in the celebrations. The Airbnb guests will be able to watch it all unfold on giant screens in front of their window.
